Therapy for OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

OCD is a term used a lot by social media, we often hear people say ‘I’m a bit OCD’. But what is OCD really? There are different types of OCD but one of the main principles that underlies this, is when people feel a strong sense of responsibility, either towards themselves, or others. They develop a belief that they must do certain things, to prevent some sort of harm coming to themselves or others. There are such a range of behaviours that this covers, it would be impossible for me to write them all down, as they can be very individual but some of the more common ones might be repeatedly checking household appliances are turned off, returning to check you have locked the door, or even constantly messaging loved ones to make sure they are okay.

Sometimes, OCD can be what we call intrusive thoughts; an unwanted thought that we have no desire or intent to act on, and having it causes us distress. Common intrusive thoughts include thoughts of harming ourselves, children or loved ones. It can range from thoughts of physical or sexual harm. It is important to note that people with this kind of OCD can be reluctant to seek help because they worry about being judged.

I offer therapy for OCD and I have worked with numerous people who have various intrusive thoughts and types of OCD. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space. It is important you feel you can tell me about the thoughts, so I can support you to overcome the difficulties you are experiencing.
